Mr. Wu Yi is one of the most independent and theoretically profound painters in the field of 20th-century Chinese ink painting. He is the only successor of Liu Haisu, who said, "Of the thousands of disciples, only Wu Yi can inherit his spirit." He is also one of the very few modern Chinese painters who have achieved both outstanding artistic practice and systematic aesthetic theory.
